The South Pole was just like how she left it. Cold, beautiful, and safe. It was still the same for her while her and her daughter slept snug underneath the plush comforter on her big, posh bed.

The rare sunlight shining through her windows soon made Korra squint her eyes open, to only close them tight again as she scooted closer to her sleeping daughter. The infant whined in protest a little when she felt her mother move her an inch, but soon yawned and fell back asleep, grabbing at the blanket over them with her tiny hands. After a few moments of peace, Korra felt something pull on her side of the blankets after hearing soft patter noises on the floor. Following the slight pull, sturdy footsteps walked up behind where Korra slept and then the pulling stopped when the footsteps stopped. “There you go baby girl. You know the drill.” Korra heard a familiar voice say after and she felt a dip in the mattress behind her. She then felt something crawl up behind her, pulling on the blankets with every grab at the blanket. She then felt something lay on her arm and pull the covers down a little.

Korra heard a high pitched voice call out to her as she felt tapping on her head. “Mama!”
Korra then pulled a bit of the covers down from her eyes so she could see the living alarm lying on her. Over her were a pair of bright amber eyes and scruffy black hair. The infant over her pushed herself up and threw her hands in the air, telling her mother to get up. Korra just quickly grabbed the child and buried her under the covers with her, blowing on her cheek as she did. Anali giggled and kicked her legs to try to get away. The two then froze when the comforter was pulled off of them. “Well, looks like you finally decided to wake up.” Mako smiled as he looked down at the two.

Korra smiled and sat up against her headboard. “How can I be grouchy to this cutie?” She said as she started to tickle the infant, making her laugh and scream.
“Yet you’ll still be grouchy to me.” Mako said as he sat on the edge of the bed.
Korra cut her eyes up at her husband. “We’re married, that’s different.” She then helped Anali stand up on the mattress by holding her little hands. “I might scare her or Ama if I’m my grouchy self when they wake me up.” Korra smiled as she helped Anali walk across the mattress.
Mako then reached out his hands to catch the little girl when she fell forward. “You missed a nice breakfast with your parents.” He said as he helped Anali settle herself on the cushy mattress.
“Did I?” Korra asked as she brushed Ama’s scruffy hair off her forehead as the infant slept.
“Yeah. Anali had fun helping your mother eat.” Mako answered as he watched Anali have fun bouncing on the mattress.
Korra gently moved Ama from lying on the bed to resting her head on her mother’s shoulder. “Shouldn’t that be the other way around and was dad nice to you?”
“Yes, nothing out of the usual.” Mako smiled as he continued to watch Anali happily bounce on the balls of her feet. “Hey Ana, guess what.” He said to grab his daughter’s attention. “Do you know who’s coming to visit today?” A pair of bright amber eyes stared at him. “Your cousin San, Uncle Bo, and Aunt Opal.” Mako smiled when he saw his daughter’s eyes brighten up at the mention of her cousin’s name.
“Don’t forget Aunt Asami, Taro, hopefully Iroh, and Tenzin’s family.” Korra added as she continued to comb her fingers through Ama’s hair.

“Can you believe they’re turning one already?” Korra said as let her mind drift as she continued to watch Ama sleep on her shoulder.
“No. I’m actually surprised we got this far.” Mako answered, broadening his answer to be about more than his daughters.
“Me too.” Korra added, easily catching what Mako meant.

The party was in full swing with lanterns outlining the courtyard of the Chief’s Palace while everyone invited enjoyed the festivities. Ama and Anali were obviously the center of attention during their party. Ama was having fun watching Ikki and Meelo put on a little airbending show for her while Rohan held her and kept her attention on the show his siblings were putting on. Anali on the other hand wasn’t in the playing mood. Still a little cautious around new people, she stayed in her grandfather’s arms as he talked to Tenzin about how his newly appointed representative was doing on the council.

Off to the side, at one of the few tables that were set up in the courtyard, the now adult Team Avatar were all sitting together, catching up on events they missed. The big one being Bolin’s new promotion at the fire station he worked at.

“Bolin, I don’t understand why you’re questioning this. I think you should take the promotion. Especially since Opal thinks you should too.” Mako said as he looked at his little brother from across the table.
“I know, but this promotion would mean that I would have to stay at the station for weeks, and with the new baby coming, I don’t want to leave Opal alone with a child and newborn.” Bolin explained as he looked over at his wife who was off talking with Senna and Pema.
“I’m sure she’ll be fine.” Iroh suggested, trying to calm his friend’s nerves. “If Asami can take care of Taro while I’m gone and run a company at the same time, I’m sure can take care of two kids on her own.”
“Yeah,” Asami agreed eagerly. “Opal is strong than you let yourself believe. She’ll be fine while you’re away. Beside, you two live on the island with the other airbenders. You practically have a whole other family within walking distance to help her when she needs it.”
“Yeah but, I’ll feel guilty leaving her when I’m on call.” Bolin said as he tried to think of reasons why he shouldn’t take the promotion.
“Bo,” Korra said as she placed a hand on his shoulder. “Take the promotion. Opal will be happy for you and already understands what you would have to do.”
Bolin smiled a little. “Ok, I’ll talk to my boss when I get back home.” He sighed as he slumped down in his seat.

“Daddy!” San screeched as he ran over to pull on Bolin’s arm. “I’m bored! Can I have cake now?” The child asked impatiently.
Bolin looked down at the child. “San, I already told you, that’s your cousins’ cake. You can’t have any until they blow out their candles first.”
“But they’re babies! They won’t know what to do!” San complained, received smiles and muffled laughs from his aunts and uncles.
Bolin sighed and then looked around the courtyard. “Why don’t you go play with Taro and Kai? They look like their having fun.” Bolin suggested as he turned his son around. A feet away in the courtyard, Kai was playing with Taro, having the toddler chase him around in a game of tag while Jinora was sitting off to the side, laughing when Taro tried to tackle her boyfriend and him failing over to make the toddler seem triumphant.
“But Taro’s a baby too.” The four year old whined. “Can’t I just stay with you?” San pouted as he looked back at Bolin.
“San that’s not really nice to say about Taro.” Bolin said, still trying to teach his son to only say nice things about people.
“Oh be quiet Bolin, he can stay.” Asami smiled. “San, do you want to sit with me?”
“Yeah!” The little boy chirped as he bounced over to his aunt and jumped in her lap.

Bolin sighed. “I was I like that at his age?” He asked as he looked over at his older brother.
“You were actually a lot worse. You once said our babysitter’s face looked like an Ostrich Horse and made her cry.” Mako admitted before taking a sip of his drink, receiving a laugh from everyone including his nephew.
“Yeah, well at least I didn’t marry a controlling, money-obsessed psycho.” Bolin pouted as he crossed his arms.
Mako flinched from the comment. “Can we not talk about her?” He asked as he slumped in his seat.
“Why not? I like talking trash about your horrible first wife.” Korra said as a devious grin spread across her face.
Asami laughed once a thought crossed her mind. “I still remember the time when Korra threw her food on her when you two start dating again.”
“Yeah and then I lost the bedroom set because of that and had to sleep on the floor for a month.” Mako complained as he pitched the bridge of his nose.
“Oh calm down,” Korra said before kissing her husband’s cheek. “I bought you a new set didn’t I? And it’s still better than the one you had with her.”
“I’m guessing you never liked Mako’s first wife, huh?” Iroh asked, still a little unclear about the event that was being discussed because he was seriously busy at the time.
“I tolerated her at first.” Korra answered. “But then she treated Mako like trash, so I did the same to her.”
“Just stop.” Mako groaned as he covered his face.

“Uncle Mako, you need to take a nap.” San said, totally clueless about what was going on, but just thinking that his uncle was grouchy and needed a nap, making everyone laugh.
----
“1, 2, 3!” Everyone shouted at both Mako and Korra helped their daughter blow out their daughters’ birthday candles, everyone clapping for them.

“Ok, dig in munchkins.” Korra smiled as she let Ama go loose and reach out for the colorful cake in front of her.
“Korra,” Mako started when he saw that Ama was just digging her fingers in the side of the cake.
“Oh calm down Cool Guy.” Korra interrupted as she reached over to make him let go of Anali’s arms. “They’re babies, let them have fun.”
Once she was free, Anali followed her sister and dug out a big piece of cake for herself to only shove it in her face like how her sister did.
----
“They really tired themselves out.” Korra smiled as she brushed back one of her daughter’s bangs.
“Yeah,” Mako sighed as he took off his white tank top. “You should’ve seen San. Five minute of playing with Taro and Kai and he was out like a light.” He said as he walked over and sat on the foot of the bed.
Korra smiled. “I’m sure Bolin and Opal were happy about that.” Her smile then faded as her mind started wonder.
Mako saw the change in his wife’s mood and became concerned. “What?”
“They’re growing up too fast. Next year they’ll be turning two, and before we know it, they’ll be our age.” She answered, still looking down at Ama and Anali as they slept on the oversized bed.
“And when they’re our age,” Mako said as he got up to move to sit behind his wife, Korra leaning into his chest when he wrapped his arms around her shoulders, “They’ll have families of their own and happy that we’re their parents and come to us when they need help.”
Korra stayed quiet as she thought to herself and continued to look at her daughters. “I know, but I’m not ready for that. I want them to stay little and cute.”
“And they will.” Mako said before kissing the top of Korra’s head. “It’ll be a long time before they think they won’t need us.”

Korra then moved so that she could look up at her husband. She then laughed a little when something caught her eye.
“What?” Mako asked, confused on what she was laughing at.
“You still have cake in your hair.” Korra laughed as she ran her fingers through a patch of Mako’s hair to only show him that there was still frosting in it.
Mako smiled as he tried to get the rest of the frosting out of his hair. “You were the one who let the girls eat with their hands.”
“Yeah, and Ama had a blast throwing cake at you and Anali thought it was funny to shove it your face.” Korra laughed as she started to help him get the frosting out.
“Yeah, I’m still wondering why they didn’t attack you.” Mako mumbled under his breath.
Korra smiled as she looked at him. “Because they go after the brooding parent.” She said before kissing her husband on the lips.
