“Come on Ama, just eat your lunch,” Korra begged as she held a spoon full of smashed up papaya in front of her chubby, blue eyed daughter. The ten month old looked between the spoon and her mother for a moment, her mouth closed shut before turning her head away and pushing the spoon away from her face. “Oh come on honey. I let a doctor cut me open so you could be born, doesn’t that tell you I love you?” Korra asked her daughter, receiving a shake of the infants head and another push at the spoon. Korra sighed and put the spoon back in the bowl that held the mashed up fruit. “What am I going to do with you? Ever since day one, you’ve given me trouble; first being stubborn and not following your sister out, then all the crying and being jealous when no one gives you all their attention, and now you refuse to eat just because I’m not daddy. You’re too young to have a rebellious stage.” Korra whined as she looked at her stubborn daughter, who now was busy watching birds fly about outside the kitchen window.

As if on cue, Korra could hear the front door open. “I’m home,” Mako called out as he walked through and did his usual routine when arriving home – locking the door behind him, throwing his keys on the small table next to the entrance, and starting to take his jacket off.
“Good, come feed your stubborn daughter,” Korra commanded as she stood up straight, now having both of her girls looking at her, surprised by their mother’s tone.
Mako walked through the small doorway to the kitchen with a confused expression. “Let me guess, Ama?”
“Yes. I’ve been fighting with her for the past ten minutes but nothing.” Korra continued to complain. “I mean, look at Anali,” she said as she motioned over to her amber eyed daughter who was quietly sitting in her highchair looking tired, “she finished her food first so she’s been sitting here bored out of her mind. She even fell asleep when I was trying to feed Ama.”
Even though the situation should be taken seriously, Mako couldn’t help but find the frustrated look his wife gave and the blank stares that his daughters were giving to her and each other a little funny. “You three are so cute.” He smiled after Korra was done with her little rant.
“Mako,” she snapped as she stomped her foot on the ground.
“All right, all right, calm down,” Mako said before kissing the top of Korra’s head. “I’m sure it’s not you and she’s just not hungry. Look, I’ll show you,” Mako said as he knelt down to Ama’s level and picked up the spoon from the bowl and held in front of his daughter’s face. “Say ‘ah’.” Mako told the ten month old as he held his mouth open. After staring at her father and the spoon for a little bit, Ama opened her mouth as wide as she could and leaned forward to chomp down on the small spoon. When she sat back, the spoon was wiped clean and she swallowed her food instead of spitting up like she would do when Korra fed her. Ama then opened her mouth again tried to point at it – but instead smacked the side of it with her fingers – signaling that she was still hungry.
Mako’s face dropped out of shock about what happened. Behind him, Korra crossed her arms as she narrowed her eyes and pointed them down at her husband. “What was it you were saying about it not being me?”
Mako was dumbfounded. “Uh, maybe she wasn’t hungry before,” he suggested as he stood straight up, still staring at Ama who was still signaling that she was hungry. “Here, try now.” Mako said as he handed the spoon to Korra.
Korra looked down at the spoon. “She’s not going to let me feed her,” she said as she looked back up at her husband.
“Just try.” Mako said as he rolled his eyes and pushed the spoon at her again.

Korra the snatched the spoon out of his hand while snapping a “fine” at him. She then knelt down and looked into Ama’s matching blue eyes. The infant then stopped signaling that she was hungry and just gave her mother a blank stare. Korra then filled the spoon with mashed papaya and held it out in front of Ama’s face. “Say ‘ah’,” she said, copying the tone and expression that Mako did moments earlier. Ama just looked at the spoon and then her mother, her expression never changing. The ten month old then did what she did minute earlier – she turned her head away from the spoon and pushed it away from her face. “Come on honey, don’t do this to me,” Korra groaned in defeat.
“Bo,” the infant mumbled – her version of the word no – as she shook her head. Korra then plopped the spoon back in the bowl and stood up to stare up at her husband with her signature angry pout and point at the stubborn infant. Ama then looked up at the two and started to signal that she was hungry again. “Da. Da.” She mumbled as she kept looking up at Mako and pointing to her mouth. Mako shifted his eyes to look down at his daughter and then shifted them back at his wife as he gave her an apologetic smile and shrug of his shoulders.

In the background, Anali jumped awake after nodding off. She looked around the kitchen for a minute as she chewed on her fingers, looking at her parents for a minute and then turning to her sister. The infant then turned away and shut her eyes tight as her cheeks turned red. Once she opened her eyes again, she looked down at herself and started to scream as tears rolled down her chubby cheeks.
Korra snapped her gaze away from Mako to see what was wrong with the crying infant. She instinctively sniffed the air to only frown at what she smelt. “Ok, you feed that one and I’ll change this one,” Korra said as she removed the tray in front of Anali and unbuckled her from the highchair.
“Ok,” Mako agreed as he clamped his nose shut once Korra picked up the crying baby.

Korra hurried out of the kitchen, trying to console her screaming daughter. Once the room was clear, and the crying became faint as it traveled to the back of the apartment, Mako looked down at Ama. The infant looked back at her father with wide blue eyes. “Da,” she said before opening her mouth and pointing at it, saying she was still hungry.
Mako sighed as he shook his head and pulled a chair over by her highchair. “You really need to start being nice to mommy,” Mako said as he started to feed his daughter. “She’s starting to think that you don’t like her even though she takes care of you more than I do.” Mako said as he looked at his daughter, only receiving her hungry signal as a response. “You’re just like her, you know? You’re stubborn, you easily get jealous, and you’re obsessed with me.” He smiled as he fed Ama another spoon full of mashed papaya.

“Mako, I can hear you over the baby monitor,” Korra shouted from the nursery. “And being married to you does not mean I’m obsessed!”

Mako frowned from being caught when he looked over his shoulder at the baby monitor on the kitchen counter. He then looked at Ama, smiled at her wide, curious eyes as she looked around for her mother. “And you two are really loud,” he added as he filled the spoon with papaya.

“I heard that!” Korra shouted again, making her husband smile this time.

I just wanted to do something with Korra dealing with stubborn babies and Mako getting caught on the baby monitor.

I own nothing but the story idea and the twins.
